FTP access using FTPES

I am trying to connect using FTP over TLS (FTPES) but the connection hangs at MLSD when it should be getting the remote directory contents. So far I have used multiple computers and loads of different FTP clients. Currently I am using Ubuntu and Filezilla or BareFTP but have tried Windows 7 and Windows 8 too - all with the same results.

I can connect using plain FTP without issue and in the past I did set up port forwarding on my router so I could use an active connection rather than passive which worked. Ideally though I would like to not have ports forwarded on my router as I use multiple computers so the configuration would be more complex (different port ranges needed for each computer and client configuration etc).

Is anyone else seeing similar or have any other suggestions please? I would have said it was a firewall issue on the Xilo server but since FTP and FTPES use the same port (21) I don't think it is that at the moment.

FTP over SSL should work just fine and you're correct in regard to the ports.

Could you drop a ticket in confirming if the details we have on file are the ones you are using, but also detail your setup including router and so on. We'll see if we can replicate from a test connecting in the office using NAT (where passive/active modes are generally switched) due to closed or forwarded ports.
